"Down by the river, where the water flows cold and clear, I'll whisper sweet words to you, honey, words you want to hear." -Hidatsa courting song
KNIFE RIVER INDIAN VILLAGES, N.D. - The renowned Mandan-Hidatsa flute player shared his people's songs and stories as listeners huddled around a glowing fire in the earth-covered lodge.
"A young lady might hear a song similar to this along the river," explained Keith Bear, as he began to play the flute, pausing midway to sing the words from a courtship song before ending the soulful melody with one last breath.

| Economical Development: Three Affiliated Tribes' wind turbine ready for use |
NEW TOWN, N.D. - A wind turbine built on top of a butte about 350 feet above Lake Sakakawea will help the Three Affiliated Tribes save money, tribal officials said.
Electricity from the turbine will help offset the cost of power at the nearby Four Bears Casino, said Rich Mayer, chief executive officer for the tribes. "And that is predicted to be for the next 25 or 30 years."
"This project is a great example of demonstrating wind potential and wind power on Fort Berthold," said tribal Chairman Tex Hall.
